The Queen is Dying

Queen Rhaenys Targaryen, First of Her Name, is dying. The first woman ever to sit the Iron Throne in her own right, her ascension was met with doubt, resentment, and open defiance from many across the Seven Kingdoms. Yet through long years of careful rule, a steady hand, and an unshakable will, she proved herself one of the finest monarchs Westeros has ever known. But with the death of her beloved son and heir, Prince Laenor, in 117 AC — followed swiftly by the death of his only child — the question of succession has torn open old wounds the realm had long pretended were healed.

Will the crown pass to Princess Laena Targaryen, Rhaenys’s eldest surviving child, who believes the throne is hers by right of blood, though many whisper she is too proud, too reckless, and too ruled by passion? Or will it pass to Prince Baelon Targaryen, son of the Rogue Prince and Lady Aemma Arryn — arrogant and dangerous in equal measure, yet possessing the one advantage much of the realm believes matters above all else: he was born male.

And so the realm waits, divided between queen and prince, daughter and cousin, while dragons gather overhead.

The only certainty is this: the Seven Kingdoms will drown in fire and blood.
